Process and apparatus for the recovery of heat from mixtures of organic reaction products

In the recovery of heat from organic reaction products in heat exchangers with production of steam the reaction product, after cooling to near the condensation temperature if desired, is compressed to raise the condensation temperature. In the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene at about one atmosphere the reaction effluent first heats incoming ethylbenzene-steam reaction mixture and is then cooled in a heat exchanger to about 125 DEG C. with production of steam at about 1,5 atmospheres pressure. The reaction effluent is then compressed to about 1,5 atmospheres and condensed with further production of steam. In the dehydration of ethyl alcohol to ethylene the reaction effluent first heats the ethyl alcohol feed and is then compressed to about 1,5 atmospheres and steam and ethyl alcohol vapours are condensed with production of steam.
