PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst converter apparatus capable of rapidly heating from a cold start.SOLUTION: A catalyst converter apparatus 100 includes a housing 102 having a gas inlet and a gas outlet, and at least one catalytic substrate element disposed in the housing 102. The at least one substrate element is divided into a plurality of zones or sections 108a, 108b, the zones at least partially being separated from one another by walls 110a, 110b, 110c, 110d to inhibit heat flow. The walls can include insulating material for reducing the mobility of heat radially outwardly. Each of the zones defines a generally separate flow passage connecting the inlet and outlet in fluid communication.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1B |
