The method involves comparing a characteristic of a measurement signal with a reference signal so as to detect a failure in audio equipment such as loudspeaker (7), when the characteristic of the measurement signal is approximately different. The reference signal is calculated from a test signal i.e. sinusoidal signal, and a value of measurement of acoustic transfer between a microphone (8) and the loudspeaker. A value of amplitude of the reference signal is compared with amplitude of the measurement signal. An independent claim is also included for a system for testing an audio equipment.
