The method involves carrying out traction of a vehicle by a thermal engine (7) i.e. combustion engine, and/or an electric machine (14). The thermal engine is not supplied with fuel during regeneration phase and again energized by the electric machine to function as an air pump at time duration about 2-20 seconds. The thermal engine is supplied with an air mixture/fuel close to a stoichiometric ratio of a combustion reaction of the fuel by oxygen in air. A controlled clutch is attached with the thermal engine.
