The method also includes analyzing the effects of the frequencies of applied RF energy on the imaging data to identify inhomogeneous lines formed by a summation of multiple sublines centered at multiple different frequencies. The method further includes generating a report pertaining to inhomogeneous magnetization transfer occurring in the subject in response to the pulse sequence.

A method for producing a report about a subject from data collected from the subject using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system, the steps of the method comprising: a) directing the MRI system to perform at least one pulse sequence that includes applying radio frequency (RF) energy at least at two frequencies to manipulate exchangeable magnetization from protons in the subject; b) acquiring, with the MRI system, imaging data including magnetization transfer information from the exchangeable magnetization from protons in the subject in response to the pulse sequence; c) analyzing the effects of the frequencies of applied RF energy on the imaging data to identify inhomogeneous lines formed by a summation of multiple sublines centered at multiple different frequencies; and d) generating a report pertaining to inhomogeneous magnetization transfer occurring in the subject in response to the pulse sequence based on the inhomogeneous lines identified in step c).
