The invention relates to a powder metallurgical method for producing a work piece, in particular a coin blank, wherein the work piece is produced by sintering a powder composition containing at least two different components, at least one powder component of the powder composition being magnetic and at least one powder component of the powder composition being non-magnetic, wherein a mass fraction of the at least one magnetic powder component is between 2 and 40% of the powder composition, wherein a melting temperature of the at least one non-magnetic powder component is less than or equal to 900°C greater than a melting temperature of the at least one magnetic powder component.
