Provided is a method for manufacturing a flame retardant, which comprises: a chitosan solution manufacturing step of manufacturing a chitosan solution by mixing powdered or fragmented chitosan with water at room temperature, to which acetic acid is added, and continuously stirring the chitosan to dissolve the chitosan; an ammonium polyphosphate solution manufacturing step of manufacturing an ammonium polyphosphate solution by mixing powdered ammonium polyphosphate with heated water and continuously stirring the ammonium polyphosphate to dissolve the ammonium polyphosphate; a mixed solution manufacturing step of manufacturing a liquid mixed solution by mixing the manufactured chitosan and ammonium polyphosphate solutions with each other in a high temperature environment; a pure solution acquisition step of acquiring a pure mixed solution by acquiring a melt, from which an unmelted material is removed, through the vacuum filtration of the manufactured mixed solution and washing the melt with distilled water; and a flame retardant completion step of manufacturing a powdered flame retardant by pulverizing the acquired pure mixed solution after drying the pure mixed solution at high temperatures to remove moisture. Accordingly, the method of the present invention can provide an eco-friendly flame retardant with better physical properties and flame retardant performance. |
