Disclosed are a mobile terminal capable of displaying conversation contents of a user when it is determined that the user in the conversation attempts to use the mobile terminal, and a control method therefor. A mobile terminal therefor may comprise: a microphone for receiving sound; a display unit for outputting information; and a control unit for activating the microphone when it is determined that the user attempts to use the mobile terminal or when an event has occurred in the mobile terminal, and for converting the voices of conversation participants inputted via the microphone to text and displaying the conversation contents when the user is in a conversation.
