The invention provides a process for producing carbon monoxide including contacting a carbon dioxide-containing gas with a metal oxide having oxygen ion conductivity and reversible oxygen deficiency under heating thereby reducing carbon dioxide by a stoichiometric reaction and producing carbon monoxide, wherein the metal oxide is cerium oxide containing zirconium. The ratio of the number of moles of zirconium to the total number of moles of cerium and zirconium in the zirconium-containing cerium oxide is preferably 0.001 to 0.5. |
