A method for communicating, comprising: identifying a set of nonlinear functions used to generate waveforms; assigning a unique numeric code to each of said waveforms; transmitting a numeric sequence as a series of said waveforms; receiving the series of said waveforms; and, decoding the series of said waveforms, wherein the nonlinear functions are used to represent at least one of increasing and decreasing spirals in a complex plane, and said spirals are used to generate waveforms corresponding to the cosine and sine components of said spirals, and these cosine and sine components are transmitted through a communication channel; wherein each waveform is distinguished from other waveforms by at least one of amplitude, frequency, phase, signal duration, and direction of rotation and wherein a plurality of spirals may be summed to generate said waveforms.
