<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing an aqueous dispersion sol containing metal oxide fine particles having a high refractive index and low photo-catalytic activity, the aqueous dispersion sol, and an organic solvent dispersion sol and a coating composition containing the metal oxide fine particles. <P>SOLUTION: The method for preparing the aqueous dispersion sol containing the metal oxide fine particles comprises preparing a surface coated titanium-based fine particle aggregate by coating the surface of the titanium-based fine particles comprising a composite oxide containing titanium, tin and/or silicon with a silica-based oxide or a silica-based composite oxide, drying and baking the same and pulverizing the obtained baked aggregate in the presence of water.
