<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member capable of exerting a friction reducing performance, in which a lubricating film is produced at the sliding surfaces against the Diesel engine oil containing soot owing to combustion. <P>SOLUTION: The sliding surface is coated with a nitride film, and to an ordinary Diesel engine oil, oil-soluble molybdenum compound is added in a molybdenum content of 600-1,000 ppm, in which the arithmetic mean coarseness of the sliding member is adjusted in 2-60 nm, and this is used under the lubricating conditions that the soot content of the Diesel engine oil remains 3 wt.% or below and that the Sommerfeld number lies within the range of 0.2×10<SP POS="POST">-9</SP>to 1.0×10<SP POS="POST">-9</SP>cm, provided that the viscosity and the speed are expressed in kg×s/cm<SP POS="POST">2</SP>and cm/s, respectively, and the load is expressed in conversion into the mean Hertz stress (kg/cm<SP POS="POST">2</SP>). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
