The invention relates to a computer implemented system, and a method for detecting abuse of an electronic mail infrastructure in a computer network. The computer implemented system comprises a host system, an application program component implemented on the host system, a network interface provided as part of the host system and configured to handle electronic data exchange between the host system and a computer network, and an electronic mail monitoring component provided in the host system, wherein the electronic mail monitoring component is configured to intercept within the host system electronic mails generated by the application program component for sending to the computer network via the network interface and to provide electronic classification information about an abusive status of the intercepted electronic mail.
