[Also in Group XXXII] A flat reinforced plastic spring (Fig. 2) comprises a longitudinal core 10a of layers of parallel contiguous resin-bonded glass filaments with one or more similar transverse layers 24, 26 bonded on to both of the broad surfaces of the core. Thin longitudinal layers 16a, 18a may be bonded on to the surface to increase abrasion and fatigue resistance and fixing holes 28 provided. The springs are sawn or cut to size from panels made by laying up a stack 10 of layers of longitudinal glass filaments, adding transverse cross-wraps 12, 14 and longitudinal surface layers 16, 18 and bonding them together with heat and pressure with a thermo-setting resinous compound. |
