PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce loss of starting air.SOLUTION: A uniflow-type large low speed turbocharged two-stroke internal combustion engine with a cross head 41 is provided which includes a plurality of cylinders 1a and a compressed air supply source. Each of the cylinders 1a comprises a scavenging port 17 provided in or near the lower end part of the cylinder 1a, a cam control type exhaust valve 4 provided at the upper part of the cylinder 1a and resiliently biased to its closed position by an air spring 30, one or more fuel injection valves 6a, and a starting air valve 13a connected to the compressed air supply source. The engine further includes a starting air distributing machine for independently operating the starting air valve 13a by air pressure and means for invalidating an independent action of the starting air valve 13a performed by the starting air distributor machine. When the cam control type exhaust valve 4 corresponding to the cylinder 1a is opened, the invalidating means invalidates the independent action of the starting air valve 13a.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
