PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine, capable of performing inexpensive catalyst warming-up with microwaves.SOLUTION: An engine 10 in the embodiment includes a catalyst 34, and a microwave irradiation device 36. The catalyst 34 is provided in an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine 10, and has a deposition body (specifically, a catalyst metal 80) on the surface for soot 82 to deposit thereon. The microwave irradiation device 36 irradiates the catalyst 34 with microwaves 38 to warm up the catalyst 34. In this construction, an ECU 70 estimates the amount of the soot 82 depositing on the catalyst metal 80 from the operating condition of the engine 10, and performs soot generation control to increase the generation amount of the soot 82 when the estimated amount of the soot 82 is smaller than a predetermined amount and an engine load is lower than a predetermined load.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
