The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting the surroundings of a vehicle, and more specifically, to an apparatus and a method for detecting the surroundings of the vehicle, easily detecting an obstacle positioned within the surroundings of the vehicle. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the apparatus for detecting the surroundings of the vehicle comprises: an image obtaining part; an image scanning part; an obstacle detection part; a guide line generation part; and a detected image generation part. The image obtaining part obtains a plurality of images of the surroundings with respect to each different direction from the vehicle for a predetermined period. The image scanning part scans at least one of the images of the surroundings through a mask with a predetermined size. The obstacle detection part detects an object positioned within the surroundings of the vehicle through a change of a pixel value in accordance with a result of the scanning. The guide line generation part generates a guide line allowing a change of a combined position to be combined with at least one of the images of the surroundings depending on the detected obstacle. The detected image generation part generates a detected image where the guide line is combined with the images of the surroundings. |
