1. An intravascular device comprising:
a catheter adapter having a cylindrical inner surface, wherein the diameter of the inner surface increases from a first location until a second location, the second location being distal to the first location; and a septum having an outer surface, a proximal end, and a distal end forming a distal surface, the outer surface having one or more vents that each extend from the proximal end to the distal end to thereby allow air or liquid to bypass the septum by passing through the one or more vents; wherein the septum is positioned within the inner surface of the catheter adapter with the distal end of the septum being located at the second location such that, when the septum is compressed within the inner surface of the catheter adapter, the diameter of the distal end of the septum is greater than the diameter of a portion of the septum located at the first location. |
