The present disclosure provides a biopsy needle configured to maximize tissue sampling yield and further ensure collection of a cohesive unit of sampled tissue. The biopsy needle of the present disclosure provides a distinct cutting slot defined on one side of a distal portion of the needle. The side cutting slot is configured to collect a full core of tissue sample and keep the full core intact.

1. A biopsy needle comprising:
an elongate tubular body having a longitudinal axis and comprising a proximal portion having a proximal end, a distal portion having a distal end, an outer surface, and an inner surface defining a lumen extending along the longitudinal axis between the proximal and distal portions; and a cutting slot defined on one side of the distal portion of the body and extending through the outer and inner surfaces and into the lumen of the body, the cutting slot comprising:
a proximal cutting end and an opposing distal cutting end; andopposing sidewalls defined between the proximal and distal cutting ends and extending along a length of the body and parallel to the longitudinal axis, wherein at least one of the proximal and distal cutting ends defines a concave shape having a cutting edge configured to excise a sample material upon contact therewith so as to capture the sample material within the lumen of the body.
