Tunable laser with directional coupler

摘要

A tunable laser has a first mirror, a second mirror, a gain medium, and a directional coupler. The first mirror and the second mirror form an optical resonator. The gain medium and the directional coupler are, at least partially, in an optical path of the optical resonator. The first mirror and the second mirror comprise binary super gratings. Both the first mirror and the second mirror have high reflectivity. The directional coupler provides an output coupler for the tunable laser.

1. A tunable laser comprising:
a first wavelength selective element characterized by a first reflectance spectrum; a second wavelength selective element characterized by a second reflectance spectrum, wherein the first wavelength selective element and the second wavelength selective element form an optical resonator; a gain medium between the first wavelength selective element and the second wavelength selective element; and a directional coupler between the first wavelength selective element and the second wavelength selective element, wherein the directional coupler provides an output coupler for the laser.
