PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such an image display device as being capable of stably keeping driving of a plasma display panel in 256 gradations even if the vertically synchronous frequency of an image signal to be input is changed. SOLUTION: The image display device, for which a so-called sub-field method of timingly superimposing and displaying plural binary images with weighted plasma display images is used, comprises a vertically synchronous frequency measuring means 10 to measure the vertical synchronous frequency of an image signal and a sub-field number adjusting means 11 to adjust the number of sub- fields in accordance with the measurement result of the vertically synchronous frequency.
