The present invention provides an apparatus for operating LED lighting to prevent a flickering phenomenon during photographing even with a camera having various shutter speeds, and a method for controlling the same. The apparatus for operating LED lighting of the present invention comprises: an LED lamp comprising multiple LED elements; a lamp driving part supplying driving power to the LED lamp; a light amount input part configured to set the amount of light of the LED lamp; and a control part setting the number of the LED elements turned on among the multiple LED elements depending on the light amount set by the light amount input part, and switching the multiple LED elements so that the set number of the LED elements can be turned on according to a defined lighting order every set period. |
