PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a lighting system ensuring a longer lifetime of a discharge lamp compared with the conventional lighting system.SOLUTION: A discharge lamp lighting system includes a pulse generation unit, and a power supply unit for converting a DC voltage supplied into a DC applied voltage, converting the applied voltage into an AC current depending on the frequency of a pulse, and supplying the AC current to the discharge lamp. The pulse generation unit is configured to be able to output a first pulse and a second pulse of lower frequency alternately. Frequency of the second pulse is set to a predetermined reference frequency when the value of the applied voltage matches a predetermined reference value, set to a frequency lower than the reference frequency when the value of the applied voltage goes above the reference value, and set to a frequency equal to or lower than the reference frequency when the value of the applied voltage goes below the reference value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
