Provided are a DC power transmission system protection device, a protection method, and a DC power transmission system suitable for a configuration including an overhead line zone and a cable zone in a power transmission path. The DC power transmission system includes at least a pair of self-excited AC/DC converters and a power transmission path electrically connecting the AC/DC converters and including an overhead line zone and a cable zone. The protection device includes: a first determination means for determining whether an accident occurs in the power transmission path or not; and a second determination means for, when the first determination means determines that an accident has occurred, determining the zone where the accident has occurred. When it is determined that an accident has occurred in the overhead line, an instruction for resuming the power transmission after a predetermined time period has elapsed from clearing the accident is given to the AC/DC converters by the second determination means. When it is determined that an accident has occurred in the cable, the state after the accident has been cleared is maintained. |
