The purpose of the present invention is to provide a video conversion method whereby when displaying video images generated from the same video data on display devices at different display luminance levels, the video images can be converted such that the appearances of the video images become visually similar to each other. The present invention provides a video conversion method whereby when displaying video images generated from the same video data on display devices at different display luminance levels, the video images are converted such that the appearances of the video images become visually similar to each other, said video conversion method comprising a step wherein the video images are converted by setting gradation characteristics for displaying the video images at a second display luminance level such that a difference value corresponding to a just-noticeable-difference (JND) between adjacent gradation levels at the second display luminance level becomes close to a difference value corresponding to a JND between adjacent gradation levels at a first display luminance level in a target gradation range which is at least part of the entire gradation range.
