Vinyl floor tiles and composition therefor

Vinyl chloride polymer compositions comprise (a) a vinyl chloride polymer consisting of at least 60 % by weight of vinyl chloride units, the balance if any being an ethylenically unsaturated organic compound copolymerizable with vinyl chloride, (b) asbestos, (c) a compounds of formula where R1 and R2 are hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, and (d) an alkali metal carbonate. The polymer may be polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, vinylidene chloride or maleic anhydride. The compositions may also comprise fillers, e.g. ground limestone; platicizers, e.g. dioctyl phthalate, didecyl phthalate, dioctyl azelate and dioctyl sebacate; and additional stabilizers, e.g. alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, zinc, cadmium, lead and tin salts of lauric, benzoic and substituted benzoic acids. An example describes a composition comprising a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, dioctyl phthalate, expoxidized soya bean oil, ground limestone, asbestos, titanium dioxide, dicyandiamide, zinc dibenzoate, barium bis-(p-t.-butyl benzoate) and potassium carbonate. The compositions may be made into floor tiles.
