The present invention relates to a refrigerator of which a shelf assembly structure is improved in order to enable a consumer to freely change positions of shelves. One aspect of the present invention provides a refrigerator including a storing compartment formed to receive food inside and a shelf assembly positioned in at least a part of the compartment. The refrigerator is characterized by a fact that the shelf assembly includes a first shelf having a first storing space and a second shelf joined to at least a part of the top of the first shelf and having a second storing space. According to embodiments of the present invention, a shelf assembly is changeable according to user preference. In addition, constraints on the size of food to be stored on the shelf can be removed. Additionally, a separate inner coupling structure inside the compartment is not necessary as a coupling structure is formed on the shelf to make better use of a space.
