PURPOSE:To sharply reduce the number of devices, a device space, and a machining process time, by a method wherein the whole outer surface of the spherical part of a grinding saucer is divided into plural partial surfaces to form a grinding processing surface, and a grinding process on an optical element can be performed by means of the same machine and through the same process. CONSTITUTION:The whole outer surface of a grinding saucer is divided into two parts of inner and outer peripheral parts by means of a plane extending at right angles with a rotary central axis. A coarse grinding material is adhered to a partial surface 1 of the spherical body of the outer periphery, and a fine grinding material is adhered to a partial surface 2 of the spherical crown of the inner periphery to form a grinding processing surface, and a smooth one-piece spherical surface on the whole. The processing part of the saucer is securely held on a rotary shaft 3, and is rotated around an axis with the aid of a motor 4. The whole thereof is turned around a curvature center 0 of the grinding saucer with the aid of a turning motor 5. The position of a workpiece 21 is secured by means of a holder 22, and is forced into pressure contact with the grinding processing surface by means of a hairpin-form device 23 having a pressure contact mechanism forcing the workpiece into pressure contact with the partial surfaces 1 and 2. The partial surface 2 is machined in a way to change an inclination angle. |
