In a roller or ball bearing such as the self-aligning spherical roller bearing wherein the inner race 10 is mounted on a cylindrical shaft, such as the mill roll neck, by means of a longitudinally split tapered sleeve, the bore of the inner race has an eccentric channel 16 with closed shallow ends 20 in order that to remove the inner race the latter is loosened by hydraulic pressure fluid applied to said channel through a fitting 22 and an axial duct 21, positioned at the deepest part of the channel, for the fluid to penetrate between the race and the sleeve, the unchannelled portion of the inner race bore between the ends 20 being of greater width than, and during assembly being suitably positioned relative to, the longitudinal split in the sleeve so as to preclude fluid loss through the latter. |
