Provided is a speed reducer for a consecutive variable valve timing controller. The speed reducer includes: a first rotation member connected to a crank shaft by a chain to rotate; and a second rotation member geared with the first rotation member at a predetermined ratio to rotate at a relative rotation speed, and combined with a cam shaft. A rotation speed of the crank shaft, sensed by a crank shaft position sensor, is substituted with a rotation speed of the first rotation member, sensed by a first sensor installed on the motor. A rotation speed of the cam shaft, sensed by a cam shaft position sensor, is substituted with a rotation speed of the second rotation member, sensed by a second sensor installed on the motor. Therefore, an actual phase angle of an intake or exhaust valve is detected by using the rotation speed of the first rotation member, sensed by the first sensor, and the rotation speed of the second rotation member, sensed by the second sensor. Output torque of the motor is adjusted based on a phase deviation between the detected actual phase angle and a preset target phase angle. |
