<p>There is disclosed a controller for a brushless, sensorless motor of a powered surgical tool, the motor having windings and a rotor, the tool being provided with a cutting accessory and including a surgical handpiece, holding said motor, and an assembly via which the accessory is releasably coupled to the rotor so as to be drivable by the motor, the controller being coupled to the handpiece or configured to be so coupled, whereby to be operable: to determine, when a speed of the motor is at or below a threshold value, the position of the rotor relative to said windings by inductance sensing of the rotor position; to determine, when said speed is above the threshold value, the position of the rotor relative to said windings by a process other than inductance sensing of the rotor position; and to apply energisation signals selectively to said windings based on the determined position. cfv, rI I i cv~ Li</p> |
