[Class 82 (i)] In the production of magnesium from the dust resulting from the reduction of magnesium oxide with carbon, the dust is briquetted under high pressure without addition of a binder, but with the addition of finely ground non-volatile residues from the previous distilling operations. The amount of residues added may be such as to provide a metal content of 35-40 per cent. in the mixture. For example, 30 per cent. of the material to be briquetted may be such residues. The briquettes may be used as resistance elements in an electric distillation furnace for obtaining the magnesium.
