A carpet sweeper has a pair of dust-pans D which are tilted to discharge their contents by upward movement of the bail E one arm of which has a bent end f<SP>2</SP> passing through a vertical slot a<SP>2</SP> in an end plate a of the sweeper casing and engaging an inverted V-shaped spring G pivotally connected at its ends to the dust-pans D.
