A vehicle chassis includes a framework comprising a pair of spaced-apart elongate longitudinal members 12, 14 connected by a pair of spaced-apart elongate lateral members 20, 22, with bracing. A trailing-arm rear suspension 52 is attached to rearmost lateral member 20, and a leading-arm front suspension 56 is attached to frontmost lateral member 22. The bracing may comprise cross-members 33, 35 extending within the framework, preferably between lateral members 20, 22 and suitably diagonally. The bracing can alternatively or additionally comprise a preferably flat panel 36, suitably of glass-fibre or carbon-fibre reinforced composite, attached to the framework, for example with adhesive bonding. The framework may provide a core box at the centre of the chassis from which additional frame members may extend, providing a lightweight chassis suitable for a goods vehicle having a flat load space. |
