PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer member separation mechanism, configured so as not to have an influence on a force of biasing a transfer roller to an image carrier, in a pressure contact state, without any influence on an image.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a transfer member for transferring a toner image from an image carrier; and separation means for moving the transfer member from a position in contact with the image carrier to a position separated from the image carrier. Separation means can be moved to a first position where the transfer member is in contact with the image carrier, and a second position where the transfer member is separated from the image carrier. When moved to the second position, the separation means is engaged with one longitudinal end of the transfer member, to move the transfer member in a longitudinal direction, and separates the transfer member from the image carrier against a biasing force of a biasing member. In the second position, the separation means regulates the transfer member in a position separated from the image carrier. In the first position, the separation means is disengaged from the transfer member. |
