PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an open electrostatic trap mass spectrometer which operates with a wide and divergent ion packet.SOLUTION: A signal on a detector is constructed by signals corresponding to various ion periods which are called as a multiplet. By using a reproducible distribution of relative intensity in the multiplet, the signal can be also interpreted with respect to relatively little spectra such as a spectrum after passing through a fragmentation cell of a tandem mass spectrometer, a spectrum after passage of ion mobility, a spectrum after passing through a differential ion mobility separator, etc. Various implementations for a pulse converter such as a specific pulse ion source, crossing accelerator, ion guide, ion trap or the like are provided. The method and the apparatus enhance a duty cycle of the pulse converter, improve space charge crossing of an open trap analyzer and enlarge the dynamic range of a time-to-flight detector. |
