The present invention is an organic EL element formed by laminating, in order, a first electrode, a coating-type buffer layer, at least one coating-type light-emitting layer, and a second electrode, wherein the light-emitting layer is a blue light-emitting layer, the total average film thickness of the buffer layer is at least 10nm, and the average distance between the surface of the first electrode on the light-emitting layer side and the surface of the light-emitting layer on the first electrode side is 30nm or less.
