<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a socket capable of simplifying mounting work, and a lighting fixture. <P>SOLUTION: The socket 10 includes an approximately U-shaped lamp drop preventive member 14 crossing at right angles with a longitudinal direction of a straight tube lamp 57 and being rotatable around a support shaft 17 crossing at right angles with the longitudinal direction of the straight tube lamp 57; and a holding means 15 for holding positions of the lamp drop preventive member 14. The holding means 15 can select a first position wherein the lamp drop preventive member 14 does not interfere with attaching and detaching of the straight tube lamp 57, and a second position wherein the lamp drop preventive member 14 interferes with the attaching and detaching of the straight tube lamp 57.
