A tire segmented mold operating device includes a main frame (62) fixed to an upper cavity part (24) of a tire press cavity and a control plunger (64) with an axially movable cylinder rod (66) that is configured to apply a squeeze pressure to the tire press cavity. A rotatable lock ring (70) is rotatably coupled about an end of the cylinder rod (66) and axially movable therewith. The lock ring (70) includes a plurality of teeth (69) radially arranged thereon to interface with a mold ring adapter (68) via a bayonet connection. A lock ring frame (80) is independent from the rotatable lock ring (70) and is separated therefrom along the cylinder rod (66). A locking plunger (86) is configured to selectively engage the rotatable lock ring (70) to thereby prevent rotation of the rotatable lock ring (70). An electronic lock sensor (110) is configured to electronically sense an axial position of the lock rod (88).
