PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear actuator, and a cover lock device capable of continuing and discontinuing mechanical connection between a driving source and an output member with a simple configuration when the output member is linearly moved by utilizing a differential motion between two gears.SOLUTION: In a linear actuator 1, a motor 20 drives a driving gear 30 (a first driving gear 31 and a second driving gear 32) by rotation. A first driven gear 41 engages into the first driving gear 31, and a second driven gear 42 engages into the second driving gear 32. Gear ratio between the first driving gear 31 and the first driven gear 41 is different from gear ratio between the second driving gear 32 and the second driven gear 42, and the second driven gear 42 is linearly moved in a direction of an axis L by utilizing a differential motion between the first driven gear 41 and the second driven gear 42. A clutch member moves the first driving gear 31 and the second driving gear 32 in the direction of the axis L, and releases engagement between the first driving gear 31 and the first driven gear 41. |
