PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent light leakage between adjoining pixels, that is, color mixing in a liquid crystal display device.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device is provided, which includes: a TFT substrate 100 having a pixel where a pixel electrode 104 and a TFT are fabricated; a counter substrate 200 where a color filter 202 is formed corresponding to the pixel, a black matrix 201 is formed between the color filter 202 and the color filter 202, and an overcoat film 203 is formed to cover the color filter 202; and a liquid crystal 500 held between the above TFT substrate and the counter substrate. When the device is viewed in a direction facing the major surface of the counter substrate 200, an insertion material 204 having a refractive index different from the refractive index of the overcoat film 203 is formed in a layer of the overcoat film 203 in a part corresponding to the black matrix 201, where the refractive index of the insertion material 204 is different from the refractive index of the liquid crystal 500. |
