PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface emitting laser element of which the response is quickened.SOLUTION: The surface emitting laser element includes: first and second reflectors in which sets of low and high refractive index layers are laminated to form an optical resonator; an active layer between the reflectors; one or more current constriction layers each including a first electrode closer to the first reflector while interposing the active layer therebetween in an optical resonance direction, a second electrode closer to the second reflector, a current injection part between the active layer and an outermost surface of the second reflector and a current constriction part formed in an outer periphery and of which the electric conductivity is lower than that of the current injection part; and one or more current diffusion layers between the active layer and an outermost surface of the second reflector. The second electrode is disposed closer to the active layer than the outermost surface of the second reflector. The number of sets of the first and second reflectors between the active layer and the electrodes is equal to or less than ten. In the current diffusion layer, a doping concentration is made ten times or more of that of the other layer between the active layer and the second reflector and layer thickness is 10 nm or more. A distance between a minimal position of an inner diameter of at least one of current constriction parts in a direction of lamination and a center of at least one of the current diffusion layers in the direction of lamination is made equal to or less than λ/4 as an optical path length. |
