A control block 300 comprises one or more fields 304, 206 and, for each field 304, an indication is provided (e.g. nowrite) as to whether or not the field, which may be an eyecatcher field (for a dump), is intended to be updated subsequent to initialization of the control block. This indication may be completed at compile time and comprise address information for each field that is not to be subsequently updated. For each field which should not be updated following initialization of the control block a check is performed, preferably periodically (504, fig. 5), whether the field has been updated. This check may comprise a SLIP (Serviceability Level Indication Processing) trap using address information for the fields to trap updates to the addresses. If the check indicates that such a field has been updated then an indication is provided that a storage overwrite of the program control block has occurred. |
