The present invention relates to a method and a system arranged for the control of an engine speed É e for an engine in connection with play in a powertrain in a vehicle. According to the present invention, a current rotational speed difference ”É pres is determined between a first end of the powertrain, rotating with a first rotational speed É 1 , and a second end of the powertrain, rotating with a second rotational speed É 2 . Furthermore, a rotational speed difference ”É after is determined, which has to prevail between the first end and the second end after the play.
