The invention relates to a measuring device (10) for measuring a physiological parameter of an aspirate. The device comprises a sensor element (70) for measuring the physiological parameter, a connection port (30) for fluid communication with a medical tube, a collection tube (20) for aspirating and/or collecting the aspirate, a housing (40), wherein the sensor element (70) is mounted within the housing (40) and a communication passage (28) enabling the aspirate to enter the housing (40) from the collection tube (20) such that the sensor element (70) can measure the physiological parameter. Further, the invention relates to a method for measuring the parameter.
