摘要 The invention provides an ultrasonic gap sensor for interface level detection comprising a pair of ultrasound transducers 13, 14 mounted such that there is a gap between the transducers and the transducers are aligned to enable a signal transmitted from one of said transducers to be received by the other of the transducers, wherein the alignment between the transmit and receive transducers (13, 14), or the structure in which the transducers are mounted, is adjusted to suppress the influence of ultrasonic waves reflected between the transducers. The facing surfaces of the tines may be non parallel, i.e. the angle between the facing surfaces 11a, 12a, of tines 11 and 12 respectively, may be arranged to form an angle alpha. One or both of the tine faces 11a, 12a may be angled. Alternatively one or both tines may be bent. Alternatively the transducers may be angled by holding them while potting mix 15 solidifies with the transducer planes 13a, 14a arranged to define angle alpha. The resulting sensor is particularly useful for monitoring the position of an interface between a liquid and a high pressure gas.
