Antimicrobial cationic peptides and formulations thereof

Compositions and methods for making and using therapeutic formulations of antimicrobial cationic peptides are provided. The antimicrobial cationic peptide formulations may be used, for example, in the treatment of microorganism-caused infections, which infections may be systemic, such as a septicemia, or may be localized, such as in acne or an implanted or indwelling medical device.

A composition comprising an antimicrobial cationic peptide of up to 35 amino acids comprising 11B7CN (SEQ ID NO: 23) at a concentration ranging from about 0.01% (w/w) to about 10% (w/w), a viscosity-increasing agent, a solvent, and at least one additional antimicrobial cationic peptide or antimicrobial agent;
wherein the solvent comprises water and glycerin; wherein the viscosity-increasing agent is hydroxyethyl cellulose at a concentration of about 0.5% (w/w) to about 5% (w/w); and wherein the composition is a gel.
