A multi-mode cavity filter, comprising: at least first and second dielectric resonator bodies, each of which incorporates a piece of dielectric material, the first piece of dielectric material having a shape such that it can support at least a first resonant mode and at least a second resonant mode that is substantially degenerate with the first resonant mode, and the second piece of dielectric material having a shape such that it can support at least a third resonant mode and at least a fourth resonant mode that is substantially degenerate with the third resonant mode; a layer of electrically conductive material in contact with and covering at least a surface of the first dielectric resonator body and a surface of the second dielectric resonator body; at least one aperture in the layer of electrically conductive material, wherein the at least one aperture comprises at least first and second contiguous or separate portions, wherein the first portion is arranged to transfer signals from at least the first or second resonant mode in the first dielectric resonant body to at least the third or fourth resonant mode in the second dielectric resonant body and the second portion is arranged to transfer signals from at least the first or second resonant mode in the first dielectric resonant body to at least the third or fourth resonant mode in the second dielectric resonant body in parallel.
