[Also in Division E2] A structure comprises a support member to which there is secured at least one anti-slip member, the or each anti-slip member comprising a metal or alloy substrate 10 or which there is superposed a first layer 12 of material which adheres to the substrate and to a multiplicity of irregularly shaped solid particles 13, the particles projecting from the layer 12, and a second layer 14 of material which adheres to and covers both the particles 13 and the exposed portions 15 of the layer 12 disposed therebetween, the thickness of the layer 14 being such that the particles cause the external surface 16 of the layer 14 to be formed with a multiplicity of irregularly shaped protuberances. The substrate 10 may be of steel which is grit blasted before the layer 12 is applied to it, the particles 13 may be of flint, granite grit, aluminous oxide or metal slag, and the layers 12 and/or 14 may be of natural organic plastics materials, e.g. bituminous plastics, or synthetic organic plastics materials e.g. synthetic thermoplastics materials such as polyamides, e.g. nylon, and polyolefines, e.g. polyethylene and polypropylene, or thermosetting resins e.g. epoxy or alkyd resins. The layers 12, 14 may be of the same or different materials and in the latter case the melting or softening point of the material of the layer 12 is higher than that of the material of the layer 14. The layer 12 may be applied to the substrate 10 by heating the latter to a point above the melting or softening point of the material to be used and applying the material in powder form e.g. by dipping the heated substrate in a fluidized bed of the material, or by blowing or sprinkling the powdered material on the heated substrate. Alternatively the plastics material is heated above its softening or melting point and the substrate coated by dipping, or the plastics material is flame sprayed on to the substrate. The particles 13 are forced under pressure into the layer 12 while the latter is still plastic. The structure of the invention may be a clamp whose jaws are constituted by the anti-slip members, a deck, floor, path, vehicle footplate, or step.</p>
