The present invention relates to a method for producing a polycarbonate diol, by which a polycarbonate diol having a number average molecular weight of 250-5,000 is obtained by polycondensing a compound represented by formula (A) and containing 0.01-1.0% by weight of an aldehyde thereof, a compound represented by formula (B) and a carbonate compound by means of transesterification in the presence of a catalyst. HO-(CH2)10-OH (A) HO-R1-OH (B) (In formula (B), R1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted divalent alkylene group having 3-20 carbon atoms. In this connection, formula (B) does not include the compounds of formula (A).)
